<p>We&#8217;re excited to announce that Fleet Feet will have a training program for the St. Jude Country Music Half Marathon this spring!</p>
<p>We&#8217;ll host two informational meetings: Tuesday, January 24 at 6pm and Thursday, January 26 at 6pm to answer any questions you have. <p>With many of you training for the St. Jude half and full marathons, we&#8217;ve had a number of customers come in having problems with blisters, chaffing, etc.</p>

<div style="text-align:left;">Meet, Body Glide. Body Glide is a wax-based balm that helps to prevent chafing  during exercise (and during everyday activities!). It creates a non-sticky barrier on the surface of the skin against friction and moisture. Body Glide applies like a deodorant, is odorless, and it won&#8217;t stain your clothing.</div>
<p>So, where do you put Body Glide? Just about anywhere! On your feet to prevent rubbing and sores. Or if you already have blisters, apply some Body Glide on them to prevent any additional rubbing. Put it between your thighs to prevent irritation. Ladies, you can put it on your sports bra band. Body Glide can also be beneficial on rainy days, when you have excess moisture on your body.</p>
<p>Literally anywhere you experience any kind of friction or irritation, apply some Body Glide, and you&#8217;re good to go.</p>

<p>You&#8217;ve chosen your plan, done the training, modified your diet, learned how to stretch and found an affinity for ice baths.  You&#8217;ve found great socks and perfectly fit running shoes&#8230;  BUT what&#8217;s your race day plan?  The hay is in the barn (or that&#8217;s what everyone is saying), but what do you do with it?</p>

<p><a href="http://www.stjudemarathon.org/docs/CourseMap2011.pdf">Here&#8217;s a view of the course from 10,000 (or so) feet. </a> It has the start and finish lines marked and the route in between.  It indicates the Mississippi River, Overton Park, and some Memphis landmarks to keep an eye out for, and it says that aid stations are located about every 1.5 miles.</p>
<p>But it doesn&#8217;t tell you any of this:</p>

<li>Where do I get my number?</li>
<li>What&#8217;s the weather going to be?</li>
<li>Where will all of these thousands of runners park?</li>
<li>What&#8217;s a gear check?</li>
<li>Where are the bathrooms?</li>
<li>Is the course hilly?</li>
<li>What&#8217;s that big red heart on that building?</li>
<li>Where should my family go to see me?</li>
<li>How will I find them when it&#8217;s over?</li>
</ul>

Keep ID on you, whether it&#8217;s your license or a RoadID. You should also consider reflective clothing or accessories. You should maintain a healthy diet throughout training, but the days leading up to the race and nutrition on the run itself is crucial.</p>
<p>During the 3-4 days leading up to a race, you should increase (slightly) your carb intake and be especially conscious of what you&#8217;re putting in to your body.</p>
<p>You should eat dinner the night before a race or long run 10-12 hours before the race start time. This gives your body a chance to fully process everything before your run.</p>
<p>The morning of the race, you should eat a light, filling breakfast about 1-2 hours before your run. Consider a bagel with peanut butter or banana.</p>
<p>During the race, you should consume 100-200 calories every hour. During your training, experiment with various kinds of nutrition products such as gels and chews to see what works for you and your body.</p>
<p>Your post-race meal should include 1/2 your weight in grams of carbs, 10-20 grams of protein, and you&#8217;ll want to make sure you replace your electrolytes. Recovery drinks are a great way to replenish electrolytes and help reduce post-run soreness.</p>
<p>Your training long runs are trials for the actual race. Experiment with different food and nutrition products during training, so you&#8217;re prepared for the race. Don&#8217;t try new foods the day of the race!</p>
