Germantown 1/2 Marathon

13 03 2008

Just a few hours left. . .  Are you ready?

Looks like the weather will be beautiful!  And what better way to kick off the racing season in Memphis, than by a 13.1 mile romp through Germantown?  It’ll make the 5k’s to come feel easy.

If this is your first experience with a distance like this, here are a couple of important things to remember:

1.  You’ve already done the training.  There’s no more running that you can do in the next couple of days to make Sunday morning any easier.

2.  Don’t wait until Saturday night to start drinking more water and eating better.

3. Now is not the time to try something new.  New shoes, new socks, new foods, new clothes — these all look nice and feel great, but if they haven’t been tried in the trials of miles, they should be saved for later.

One more mile.  One more tempo run.  New fancy shoes or cushy socks or pretty hat.  You’ve gotta dance with the date that brought ya’, or you’re going to go home unhappy, disappointed, and probably in pain.

Enough prohibitive admonitions!  Take your good ‘ol shoes for a good ‘ol run and have a grand ‘ol time!

See you there!
